  • Population : about 150 million people

  • How come Russia is not the most populated country in the world if it is 2.5 million square miles larger than any other country?

Russia has a population of roughly 141.9 million people. Russia's area is about 17 million square kilometers (6.5 million sq. mi.), making it the largest country in the world by more than 2.5 million square miles!

Much of this land is, however, very sparsely populated. Russia’s population density is only about 22 persons per square mile (9 per sq. km.), making it one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world. Most of the people live in urban areas. Its population growth rate is also small at 0.002 percent.
